Board of Directors:
Mary Anna Zakula – Chair
Mary Anna currently works in the office of Rick Johnson, MPP for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock, and until 2009 served as the Executive Assistant for Green Communities Canada. She is a former employee of the Art Gallery of Ontario, worked at Queens Park for many years. She has served on the board of the Green Communities Foundation since March 2009.
Laurie Westaway – Treasurer
Laurie Westaway is Manager of Environmental Services at the County of Peterborough. Laurie has 10 years of experience in the environmental field, including both public and private sector organizations. She has worked with Waste Management of Canada, Green Communities Canada, and her own business, Wasteaway, an environmental consulting firm. Laurie graduated from Trent University with a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Environmental Resource Studies and Geography. She has served on the Board of the Green Communities Foundation since June 2009.
Jackie Donaldson
Jackie Donaldson started her environmental career more than a decade ago at Peterborough Green-Up, first as a board member, and then as staff, creating innovative programs like Cool Captain Climate, Climate Change Tour of Peterborough, the Shifting Gears Workplace Puppet Show with Billy Idle, and the Shifting Gears Workplace Transportation Challenge. More recently Jackie has worked with the Peterborough Public Health Unit overseeing Workplace Wellness programs. She has served on the board of the Green Communities Foundation since December 2008.
Stephen Bale
Stephen is lawyer whose practice focuses on litigation. He has served as a director of Pro Bono Law Ontario and Habitat for Humanity Northumberland, and currently sits on the board of the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation. He lives with his family on a farm in Northumberland County. He has served on the board of the Green Communities Foundation since May 2009.
Staff Support:
Beth Jones – Secretary to the Board
Beth joined Green Communities Canada as Associate Director in 2008, after almost 20 years working as an environmentalist for organizations like Greenpeace, Moving the Economy, and the Toronto Environmental Alliance. As Secretary to the Board, Beth serves as the core staff support to the Green Communities Foundation. In her spare time she also chairs the board of Transportation Options, which operates the award-winning Bike Train and other cycle tourism initiatives. She also enjoys creative writing and fixing up her century old house.
